Up early, made corrections to a promo piece I had designed for a
friend's business. They wanted the project completed by this morning. Did my
ever-increasing routine of strength exercises, and ate yoghurt and fruit for
breakfast. Shower, internet, devotions, and then I began composing an article
for our organization's newsletter.
Mid-morning my heart sank to observe tents being set up
across the street from our apartment. When you envision tents, you might think
of a circus, or camping in the woods. But here they only mean one thing: a
ceremony. They are used for weddings, funerals, and everything in between. And
no matter the event, one thing is for certain: it's going to be loud.
I was afraid it was a wedding, because those can stretch on
for up to 3 days. But the sign, when they got it up, said it was a 3-year
anniversary of someone's death. Relief. That should be a little shorter.
Still, the music started blaring over the sound system
before noon. We holed up in the rooms farthest from the street, but it really
didn't help much.
Out for lunch with friends gave a bit of relief. Home to a
lull in the noise, but it started up again quickly. I shut myself in the
bedroom and worked on designing a newsletter all afternoon. By the time supper
rolled around, I had a pretty complete layout and a stupid headache.
Out for supper, even though we had leftovers in the fridge.
Anything to get away from the noise.
Home again, we actually had a bit of fun. I popped popcorn,
we shut the bedroom door, turned on the air conditioner, and watched a movie on
my computer. Nice. Cozy. By the time it was done, the noise had stopped for the
night. We'll see if it starts up again in the morning. The tents are still
there and the generator still putts ominously.
The kitty seemed to mind the noise less than I expected her
to, although she did seem a bit subdued all day. Now, in the nighttime
stillness, she's getting a bit frisky. I think she needs a good frolic before
bed. I think she's wishing I'd just get finished with this stupid blog and pay
her some proper attention. I guess I'll oblige her. :-)
