Well, I finished the room to the point today that they can open tomorrow. The ceiling and walls are all painted and textured. I got lots of positive feed-back on the rag rolling technique. Now I just have to grout and hang my mosaic work, which will take a few days, especially since I am not going in tomorrow.
Walls are, by the way, much nicer to paint than ceilings.
So, walking the 3 short blocks from my house to the restaurant I saw 3 things that bothered me. A guy in a land cruiser backed into an guy on a motorbike, simply because the motorbike was sitting where the land cruiser wanted to be, and he was bigger. A fellow who was probably high approached me insistently for money. And a little baby was laying naked on the sidewalk, in filth with a runny nose, unattended.
In less than 10 minutes my sunny outlook and good perspective from devotions had melted away, leaving me grumpy.
So, when I arrived at the restaurant only to observe a waitress flirting with a neighbor boy, I informed her that she was at work and should maintain a proper demeanor. Instantly her countenance fell, and she was sulky and uncommunicative for the rest of the morning. I was wrong on 2 counts: 1. it wasn't my place to correct her since I have no real authority there, and 2. she was just getting the brunt of my negative reactions to all I had seen in the past 10 minutes.
I am disappointed in myself, but the incident is finished and past. I just have to try to react better in the future.
