You know how it is, don't you? You bump into an old friend.
You both agree you should really get together soon. You fully intend to do so.
But before you know it, six or seven months fly by, and you realize you never
followed through with your commitment.
I stopped and visited one such acquaintance today. I am
ashamed at how much time has slipped by since I saw her last. I found that she
has been wrestling through some pretty major issues. And that she has come to
some pretty unfortunate conclusions.
Of course, she is not a Christian, so I can not hold her to
biblical standards, or expect that she will follow God's moral codes.
But I am sad I wasn't there through the struggles to provide
a Christian perspective. I don't know whose voices she has been listening to
while she worked through things, but I do know that I did not lend my voice to
the process. She did not even have the opportunity to consider things from a
biblical point of view, because I was not present.
Well, what can I do? The past is, well, past.
I left promising to pray for her. Although she doesn't hold
to any religion at all, she was very happy for my prayers. And I left promising
to come again soon. I must make good on my promise this time.
