smash

Today was a good day, but less like a vacation than yesterday. I pulled away from fun activities twice today to work on reading. After about 4 hours, I'm glad to report I have Jeremiah read. That leaves Lamentations and a few .pdf articles to go.

I skipped out of a movie to do reading this evening, which really made me a bit grumpy. I don't quite know how to balance work time and people time. I figured a movie wasn't so interactive, so it would be the most opportune time. Only problem is, I kind of wanted to see the movie! :-(

The highlight of the day would be that Mr. and I, our friend (the dad) and his two sons went golfing at a near-by golf course. Now, it wasn't a pristine one, for sure. But what do you expect, when the greens fee is around $3? It was the youngest son's first try at golfing, and it was a great course for a beginner, since it was relatively uncrowded. The other people who were there playing seemed to not mind skipping around us. It seems there was no compulsion to play the holes in order.

Unfortunately, we chose the hottest part of the day to start smashing golf balls around. Mostly it was by default, since we kind of had a lazy morning and no one was in the mood to make a plan. Once we had finally decided we wanted to go golfing, it was almost lunch time, so that meant we actually headed out for the course around 1 or 1:30.

In spite of the boiling temps (and a few patches of sunburn, which showed up later) I think we all had a good time. The boys actually did pretty well for beginners. I was relatively pleased with my performance, although it really wasn't about how well we played. They didn't even have score cards there, which was OK. It helped us all stay a little more laid back not to have to count strokes.

We got back just in time for supper, and then Mr. and I and the other couple jumped into the pool to cool off. Aaah. Relaxing.

Now it's pretty late and I'm really ready for bed. I'm missing the kitty and hoping she's doing OK. I'm actually also missing quiet times with Jesus, which I haven't quite been able to work in yet this week. I have more of a rhythm and schedule back at home. Here I'm around people a lot of the time, and it's really hard to just find "a piece of quiet". Maybe tomorrow, I hope. And NOT Bible reading for class. I mean real relational time with Jesus.

PS: I do apologize for the rather lame photo today. I forgot to take the camera with me when we went golfing, and waited until dark to get one. I saw a LOT of beauty today but didn't get it on "film". This is a lamp that lines the sidewalk to our cabin. You deserve so much better.
