rash

Another good day of vacation. I did read a bit for my on-line class, and have almost all of it finished. A little bit to do… maybe Monday… and I'll be done. But I didn't feel like I missed out on anything today in order to do the reading.

I actually took a bit of quiet time to just read for myself. I looked up all the instances of fasting in the New Testament. I read a chapter on fasting in the Spiritual Disciplines book I'm working through. I talked it over with Mr. and he thinks it's just a carry-over from the Old Testament and Jewish tradition, and that it isn't really something the church needs to practice.

So, I looked all the occurrences of the word "fast" or "fasting" in the NT today. Jesus did it. He taught Jews how to do it. They did it twice in Acts: once to send out Paul & Barnabas, and once to choose elders. And then, after Acts, it's not mentioned any more. There is the record of the meeting in which they agreed not to saddle Gentiles with the Jewish laws and traditions.

All that to say, I still don't know where I stand on fasting. I'd kind of like to try it but I want Mr. to be in agreement. Not that he has to do it. Nor do I think he'd make fun of me; I just want him to be supportive. We'll see. I guess more thinking and praying is needed.

So, I'm beginning to get a rash from swimming in chlorine. I love these beachy vacations, and I love to swim. Especially here. It's so hot. But a few years ago, I started getting a rash every time I swam in a pool. This week, it was slow in coming. I was hoping it was gone for good, but today it finally struck. I still think the dip in the pool is worth it, but now I'm itchy.

I started talking with my friends about writing a book today. There is a mom with kids, a married lady with no kids (me) and a single lady. We figured we might tackle a certain topic per chapter, and give our three different viewpoints. I don't know. It's just in the brainstorming phase right now. Kind of neat to think about.

Oh, yeah. And we found a scorpion in our room tonight. Smashed it with a tennis shoe. Eeee. Not that they're unusual around here, but it's still unsettling to find them in your bedroom. Will be checking the sheets tonight before crawling into bed.

Well, they're waiting to use my computer now, to watch F Troop. (For anyone 40 or younger, google it.) I apparently have the biggest screen.
